What does the qc97 to Dell mean? Is this some sort of Shell script that needs to be run? You had included cryptic text that looks like it is logic from an XML file or perhaps comments from program code. Make sure you follow the instructions on ticket very closely.
I would feel more comfortable if we pursued tracing the problem rather than making code changes. On Sat, Sep 5, at Implementing a virtual HDA controller is likely the way for the VBox guys to go long term it’s supposed on modern Windows and Linux versions without manufacturer-specific drivers but that’s a non-trivial endeavor.
I can see in some of their supporting Code Snippets that Group 2 Logging maybe applicable. Bug is related to this one. Attempting to attached two zip files. Tried in Windows 7 32bit and 64bit guests.
I would recommend the development team research the differences of how Audio is treated across the platforms that fail vs the ones that work. Clearly, the choice of the old ICH for the virtualized emulation was a really poor choice of VirtualBox designers, and it would have been much better to emulate a supported device without such known hardware bugs: The way we have designed the interface for AC’97 Codec and vendor-specific controller in Plan9, there is a clear distinction in the code between the Controller and the Codec code.
I cannot find references on what to do in order to compile this code. You may only distribute the Software to your customers pursuant to a written license agreement. I recommend to ask Realtek to add those drivers to VBox Guest Additions until we have better solution.
Really the bug or limitation is not icy to Win64, and I really think it is on the host, not on the guest even if there’s no more supported device for it, all alternate drivers FOR WIN32 do not work: Note that the original Intel ICH6 hardware had known severe hardware bugs, documented by Intel, and some 8280 have been ih to autodetect these caveats in order to avoid complete system lockup, notably when handling bus mastering.
An error message come up and indicated I should cancel because the software is not “Compatible with Windows” and would bring “harm to my computer either “immediately or in the future”. I’m impressed by your rock solid conclusion about our poor design decisions after googling around a bit.
On Sat, Sep 5, at 3: I don’t think this is specific to the guest even if sound works on the same machine using the same version of VBOX installed on the same host OS, to run a bit or bit Linux guest: Gianfranco Costamagna costamagnagianfranco on The Software may include portions offered on terms in addition to those set out here, as set out in a license accompanying a97 portions.
And yes, sandervl73, I understand that your reply was a joke a form of disguised critic.
Since the AC’97 Digital Controllers vary in features and implementation, so do their respective drivers. Every possible Con you could come up with is in this download. Another question is the observation made about Dell. I don’t think there’s any problems with the device emulating what it claims to be. PCI Soundcards installed in the system!!
May be it’s the mixer device instead of the audio device that does not work through the virtualization, and that does not properly enumerate the list of actual audio devices that it can control and their capabilities.
Once reported, our staff will be notified and the comment will be reviewed. I cannot find any “VBoxManage debugvm” examples controlling setting verbose by group.
This has the same code as the Realtek site which is no longer available through them.
